KADENZE LAUNCHES “SOUND SYNTHESIS USING REAKTOR” IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE LAUNCH OF NATIVE INSTRUMENTS’ REAKTOR 6

Course is the first and only teaching synthesis and signal processing through Reaktor 6 that students can take for real-world college credit

Valencia, CASeptember 9th, 2015 – Kadenze, the world’s first online learning platform specializing in the arts and creative technology, is proud to launch “Sound Synthesis Using Reaktor” today. With this course, students will be able to learn the basics of sound synthesis and signal processing through Native Instruments’ newest version of their proprietary software, Reaktor 6, which also launches today.

This course (normally offered at California Institute of the Arts) has been optimized for online learning and re-designed around the new version of the software.

“Our goal at Kadenze continues to focus around teaching the arts through technology and teaching engineering through the arts,” says Ajay Kapur, Co-founder and CEO of Kadenze. “This course will be the first time we are presenting a topic like signal processing (usually found in electrical engineering curriculums), but packaging it in a fun and creative context – creating custom sounds using Native Instrument’s Reaktor 6.”

All interested students will be able to watch the weekly lecture videos and participate in the forum discussions free of charge on Kadenze’s website. Students looking for a more hands-on approach can sign up for Kadenze Premium Membership (a $7/month subscription based service) allowing them to submit assignments and receive feedback, create a personalized portfolio to display their work, and receive a discount on the Reaktor 6 software.

2012-1104-CalArts01Students can even take “Sound Synthesis Using Reaktor” for credit and receive transferable college credit at the California Institute of the Arts upon the successful completion of the course, further distinguishing it from competing online tutorials.

“I view this as both an opportunity to learn about building synthesizers as well as an opportunity to learn about their history and development,” says Owen Vallis, the course instructor and a professor of Music Technology at CalArts. “This approach provides a context for students to reflect on the design of classic synths while also informing the design of future instruments. Essentially, understanding where synthesis comes from helps us use today’s tools to build tomorrow’s sounds.”

Students who are interested in translating these concepts to a professional music career can also take advantage of an exclusive interview with Los Angeles Based DJ and electronic musician, John Tejada. This interview will be made available through the course lecture videos.
