May 1st is right around the corner, which means it’s almost National Decision Day, the day that many college-bound students declare their school of choice. Which is a big deal! Choosing a college is like choosing a car. Making the final decision isn’t the hard part, but after you close the deal and sign the dotted line, it’s one of those things you can’t change your mind about. And regretting your decision is the last thing you’ll want to experience. With that in mind, have you ever thought about giving your top picks a “test drive” through MOOCs?
Massive Open Online Courses are accessible to pretty much anyone with a computer. Kadenze, Coursera, Udemy, and edX are all MOOC platforms. Each platform offers a unique set of classes: Kadenze specially offers courses relevant to art and creative technology.
How exactly are you going to get this test drive? In a nutshell, MOOCs are online portals that’ll give you the ability to join a school’s community, before even stepping foot on campus. They’re super affordable, and some can even be taken for college credit. Pretty cool, right? A few of our credit-eligible courses include comics, art and culture, and graphic illustration. But we don’t just crank these courses out based on our expertise alone. We partner with leading universities and institutions that artists are taking into consideration for National Decision Day. They include Princeton University, CalArts, UCLA, OTIS, Stanford…the list goes on. If you’re one of those people who won’t register for a class before you know a little about the professor, feel them out through our instructor Q&A’s.
The decision-making process can be quite demanding. Traveling to every single school, looking at their curriculum, researching their faculty, and weighing the different tuitions might be a few of the tasks on your to-do list. Just think about all of the time, energy, and money you’ll save by taking a MOOC from each school. Learn about their professors and what they teach, and get a feel for the culture. Online courses are great application boosters, and portfolio builders, too.
National Decision Day will be here before you know it, and there’s no better way to effectively weigh your options than through trial and error. If May 1st is your deadline to choose, now is the time to start researching.
